how can you lose?
[Sorry for the re-post… I’m having formatting wars with my theme]
How can you lose when someone as animated (pun intended) and charismatic as Seth MacFarlane is on your side? The WGA has a great case. I particularly like it when Seth compares what they do to the musician or the novelist. At this point, it doesn’t matter who the AMPTP thrusts into the spokesperson role - they won’t win over the public. While this probably won’t change anything today (the writers will need to eat and the public will continue to watch without regard), it does articulate an opportunity.
Loose thought string for today… Producers don’t need writers, they can ride reality shows. Reality shows lower the public’s threshold for good acting. The YouTubes of the world are built for bad actors - actors like you and I. So what happens when Hollywood loses their mediums to the net and their writers too? A new way.
It might not show up before the strike is out, but rest assured it’s in the works. Somewhere a writer is asking who else they can write for. Who else will give them their deserved credit with no questions asked. Somewhere a Justin Kan is asking who would write for his show. It’s only a matter of time before entertainment is flat. Some folks apparently can’t wait.
