who’s keeping score?
I watched my poor Toronto Raptors embarrass themselves again on Sunday against the hated New Jersey Nets. By the third quarter the Nets were up by 30 points and the game was clearly over.
It was then that my friend Aaron commented on how they weren’t showing the score on the TV screen as they’d been doing all game. Well I’ll be damned. I guess when you’re a network fighting for every moment of the consumer’s attention, the longer you can keep them in the dark, the longer it’ll take them to figure out what’s happening.
For any other business, hiding what you’re really selling is a ticket to disaster. It’s easy to subsitute one brand of bread for another. Is it any wonder then, that television networks worry about what the YouTube’s of the world will mean for their value propositions?
